According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, “use of the term "sustainability" began with the 1987 publication of the World Commission on Environment and Development report, Our Common Future. This document defined sustainable development as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." The principles of sustainability can stimulate technological innovation, advance competitiveness, and improve our quality of life.”
Corporations and public entities are currently working toward a goal of achieving environmentally sustainable growth.
Towards these goals, Environmental Compliance Solutions, Inc. has assisted the Port of Los Angeles and numerous private-sector clients with establishing and monitoring their sustainable goals. Projects include: establishing matrices by which air quality, water quality, and solid waste achievements are made. Tools, calculators and reports have been prepared outlining hundreds of sustainable actions. Strategies demonstrate that profits can be maximized while environmental impacts are minimized.
